Â
"I thought it was really important for us to set the tone early from the tip and I really loved our response going into this game, knowing that Indiana was coming in off of two tough losses," head coach
Brenda Frese said. "We just have so much respect for their team, how disciplined and well-coached they are and their team is so talented. I thought the mindset that we had, the effort and the energy defensively was really, really good and that was a difference in the game. We played hard for 40 minutes. I thought that the starters, the seniors really set the tone early in the first half and then I thought the sophomores were sensational, when you talk about the second half of just being patient."
Â
Maryland opened the game on an 8-0 run to force an Indiana timeout just 2:13 in. The Hoosiers (14-5, 4-3) got settled and trailed 16-15 at the end of the first quarter.
Â
Indiana's Ali Patberg made an and-one play to give the Hoosiers the lead at 18-16, but a layup by
Ashley Owusu started an 18-3 Terrapins run over the next 9:14. Maryland led 34-21 at the half. Jones scored 10 of her 12 in the first half.
Â
Coming out of halftime, Austin went 4-for-5 from the floor and 6-for-6 at the line in the third period to push the Terrapins' lead. A three-pointer by Mikesell with 2:15 left in the quarter put the Terps up by 20 at 53-33.
Â
Grace Berger led Indiana with 21 points and Ali Patberg scored 15.
