The Terrapins will be celebrating National Girls & Women in Sports Day at Sunday's game. The first 200 kids at the game can receive a free t-shirt at the marketing table by Gate B. Fans can also participate in a NGWSD photobooth on the concourse.
The Terps-Wildcats game will be streamed online through BTN Plus. Fans can watch with their BTN Plus subscriptions.
Sunday's matchup is the 10th all-time between Maryland and Northwestern, with the Terps owning the series at 8-1. Most recently, the Wildcats won 81-58 in Evanston on Dec. 31. Maryland is 3-0 against Northwestern at the XFINITY Center.
Last time out, the Terrapins won at Illinois, 79-60, Thursday night. Kaila Charles led the way with 20 points and nine boards. Shakira Austin scored 14 and Sara Vujacic finished with 11 points off the bench. Maryland outrebounded Illinois, 52-35 and won the battle in the paint, 38-16.
The Terrapins are No. 3 in the country in steals (13.3) and fourth in scoring margin (+24.9). They are in the top 10 in the nation in turnover margin (+7.8) and in scoring (81.5). Their scoring defense (56.3) is the best at Maryland in Brenda Frese's tenure. Watson is second in the league and 15th in the nation in steals (3.1).
Charles has started in all 122 games of her career. She has a chance to break Alyssa Thomas' record of 135 career games started. Her 122 career games started are fifth in Maryland's record book.
Blair Watson was named to the Naismith Womens Defensive Player of the Year midseason watch list on Jan. 23.
Incoming Terrapin Angel Reese (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) was named to the McDonalds All-American Game Thursday. Reese, the No. 2 overall recruit in the class of 2020, is the 24th McDonalds All-American signed by Frese.
After Sunday's game, Maryland will travel to Ohio State (11-8, 4-4) for a 6:30 p.m. ET matchup Thursday in Columbus. The Terps-Buckeyes game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
