Postgame Notes: Maryland 45, Minnesota 44 (OT)

  • It is the first time in program history that Maryland has had a 300-yard passer (Taulia Tagovailoa and 200-yard rusher (Jake Funk) and only the second time that Maryland has had a 200-yard rusher and 100-yard wide receiver (Dontay Demus Jr., Jeshaun Jones), first happening when Chris Downs rushed for 212 yards and Scooter Monroe had 106 receiving yards against Georgia Tech on Oct. 17, 2002.
  • Taulia Tagovailoa is the third Big Ten player in the last 20 seasons with 350 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns in a game. The other two were Dwayne Haskins (Ohio State, 2018) and Zak Kustok (Northwestern, 2001).
  • Maryland's 17-point comeback in the fourth quarter was the largest fourth quarter comeback in team history, previously 0-71 when trailing by 17 or more points in the fourth quarter of a game.
  • Maryland's 17-point comeback in the fourth quarter is the fourth-largest comeback in any Big Ten conference game since 2004 (Illinois 21-point deficit vs. Michigan State in 2019, Michigan State 21-point deficit vs. Northwestern in 2006, Rutgers 21-point deficit vs. Indiana in 2015).
  • Taulia Tagovailoa's 394 passing yards are the 10th most single-game passing yards in school history and the most since Danny O'Brien passed for 417 yards against N.C. State on Nov. 27, 2010.
  • Maryland had two 100-yard receivers, Jeshaun Jones (103) and Dontay Demus (101 for the first time since Sept. 27, 2014 when Stefon Diggs (112) and Deon Long (108) reached the mark at Indiana.
  • With 675 total yards of offense, Maryland had its most total yards of offense in a Big Ten game since Oct. 27, 2018, when the Terps rolled up 712 yards vs. Illinois.
  • Maryland's win in overtime was its first overtime win since beating UCF, 30-24, in double OT on Sept. 17, 2016. Maryland's all-time record in overtime games improves to 7-4 (3-1 at home).
  • Maryland's 45-point performance was the team's most points scored in a Big Ten conference victory since scoring 63 against Illinois on Oct. 27, 2018, and most in any Big Ten game since scoring 51 against Ohio State on Nov. 17, 2018.
  • Jake Funk's 221 yards rushing are the 11th-most in a single game in program history and the most since Anthony McFarland Jr. had 298 vs. Ohio State (11/17/18).
  • Funk averaged 10.5 yards per carry, the 11th-best in a single game all-time.
  • Maryland's 21 points in the first quarter are the most in a Big Ten game since the Terps also scored 21 against Indiana on November 21, 2015. They are the most in any quarter for Maryland since the Terps scored 21 in the third quarter against Rutgers last season. (10/5/19).
  • Jeshaun Jones' 77-yard touchdown reception is the longest reception of his career and the longest touchdown for Maryland since Josh Jackson threw an 80-yard touchdown to Dontay Demus Jr. last season at Rutgers (10/5/19).
  • Dontay Demus Jr. finished with seven receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown, catching a pass for the 16th-straight game and his third career 100-yard receiving game.
  • Taulia Tagovailoa had a first quarter to remember, going seven-for-eight passing with 145 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing three times for 64 yards and a touchdown.
  • Tagovailoa is the first Maryland quarterback to have a passing and rushing touchdown in the first quarter since Tyrrell Pigrome did it against Texas in 2017 (September 1).
  • Joseph Petrino's 51-yard field goal is the longest field goal since Henry Darmstadter also had a 51-yard field goal at Minnesota on September 30, 2017.
  • Maryland improves to 4-2 all-time when facing Minnesota, beating them in three of the last four matchups.
