SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Maryland women's basketball sophomore Ashley Owusu is one of 20 of the top shooting guards in the nation named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the WBCA Tuesday.
 
Named after the first player, male or female, named to an All-America Team in four straight college seasons, the annual award in its fourth year recognizes the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.
 
Named to the All-Big Ten Second Team as a freshman last year, Owusu was also voted Big Ten Freshman of the Year by both the league's head coaches and media panel. In her first year at the collegiate level, she was second on the Maryland roster in scoring at 12.0 points per game, and second in the Big Ten with 5.4 assists per game.
 
Owusu led the Terps to their fourth Big Ten Tournament title in six years. She led the team in scoring in the three-game run with 15.3 points, 8.0 assists and 5.7 boards per game. She was named Big Ten Tournament MVP. In her first year in the Big Ten, she scored in double figures in 10 conference games, plus all three in the Big Ten Tournament.
 
College basketball fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies in each of the three rounds. In early February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2021 Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Award will be narrowed to just 10. In early March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Meyers Drysdale and the Hall of Fame's selection committee.
 
The winner of the 2021 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award will be presented on Friday, April 9, 2021, along with the other four members of the Women's Starting Five.
