ROSEMONT, Ill. – Freshman Angel Reese and senior Katie Benzan of the 12th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (2-1) earned their first honors from the Big Ten Conference Monday.
Reese, a Baltimore native, was named Co-Freshman of the Week with Iowa's Caitlin Clark. Benzan was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll.
In her first collegiate games, Reese made a name for herself right out of the gate. She averaged 17.0 points, 8.7 boards and shot 56.3 percent from the field with six blocks. She was named to the Gulf Coast Showcase All-Tournament Team.
In her first game, she led the Terrapins with 20 points and nine boards in a win over Davidson. In the Terps' dominating win over No. 14 Arkansas, Reese scored 16 points with eight boards. She went 6-for-7 at the foul line in the win.
In her first three games as a Terrapin, Benzan, a graduate transfer from Harvard, led the team in scoring with 19.0 points per game and was named Gulf Coast Showcase MVP. She hit 13 threes and shot 50 percent from outside the arc (13-for-26). Benzan went 21-for-38 (.553) from the field.

She scored eight of her points in the first quarter as the Terps took a 10 point lead. Maryland bounced back with dominating 115-06 win over No. 14 Arkansas Sunday in the Terrapins' final game in the #BeachBubble at Florida Gulf Coast. Their 115 points are the most ever over a ranked opponent by a Big Ten team. The Terrapins' 41-point third quarter also set a Big Ten record.
Maryland will open its home slate with a 6 p.m. game vs. Towson (1-0) at the XFINITY Center Thursday. The Terps-Tigers game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
