COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Maryland wrestling team fell to No. 24 Northwestern, 37-9, on Sunday at the XFINITY Center as part of Beauty and the Beast.
Maryland started at a weight other than 125 for the second-consecutive dual, this time starting at heavyweight.
Brandon Cray and #10 Michael DeAugustino were locked in a tight battle, as Cray kept it close and earned a takedown at the final buzzer, but DeAugustino would earn a 6-3 decision. Maryland suffered four straight bonus point losses before
Kyle Cochran dropped a decision to #18 Shayne Oster.
Philip Spadafora improved to 15-12 on the season and earned his third Big Ten dual win with a 4-0 decision over Ankhaa Enkhmandakh at 174 pounds.
Jaron Smith improved to 10-7 and earned his second ranked pin of the season, getting the fall over #16 Lucas Davison in the first period (2:18).
