
Terrapins Improve on Day 2 in IJGA Collegiate

GUADALAJARA, Mexico - The Maryland women's golf team moved up five spots in the team standings after round two at the IJGA Collegiate Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico Monday.
After the first round Monday, the Terrapins were in 13th with a score of 301. They improved their second round score by 20 strokes to 281 and moved to eighth. The Terps are currently ahead of five top 50 teams.
They made 11 birdies and a double birdie by junior Charlotte Lafourcade in the second round.
Lafourcade is tied for ninth in the individual standings. She shot a 76 in the first round, then improved her second round score by 10 strokes to a 66. She is now -2 overall.
Junior Laura Van Respaille is tied for 13th with her score of 143. She shot a 69 in the second round Tuesday and us one under par so far.
Junior Virunpat Olankitkunchai owns a score of 145 (73-72), which is one stroke over par currently. She is tied for 21st.
Sophomore Elena Verticchio improved her score by five strokes Monday, after shooting a 79 in the first round and a 74 in the second. Senior Xiaolin Tian owns a score of 157 (78-79).
The Terrapins and the 13 other teams competing will play the first nine holes of third round Monday, then will finish the round Tuesday morning.
The Terps are competing at the Guadalajara Country Club. The event is hosted by Virginia and is run by the Mexican Golf Federation. The course features 18 holes that cover 6,437 yards.

The Terrapins, ranked No. 58 nationally, will compete against No. 2 Arizona State, No. 15 Arkansas, No. 25 Baylor, California, No. 36 Clemson, No. 30 Florida State, No. 18 LSU, No. 49 Michigan, No. 5 South Carolina, No. 8 Stanford, No. 42 Tennessee, No. 37 Texas A&M and tournament-host No. 41 Virginia.
