#13 Maryland Rolls Past Michigan State, 94-53

Box Score COLLEGE PARK, Md. --  No. 13/16 Maryland rolled to its seventh straight victory, a 94-53 win over Michigan State in the Play4Kay Pink Game Monday night at the XFINITY Center. The Terrapins wore pink accessories and recognized breast cancer survivors prior to the game.

Freshman Ashley Owusu led the Terrapins (18-4, 9-2 B1G) with her career-high 22 points. She went 9-for-13 from the field, 2-for-2 from outside the arc and dished eight assists with six boards. Sophomore Taylor Mikesell added 21 points with five assists and three steals.

Senior Kaila Charles added 17 points, while sophomore Shakira Austin scored 13 with nine boards.

"The Pink Game is a really important night for our team and our game and it's something that we really respect and appreciate," head coach Brenda Frese said. "We showed our team a video about Kay Yow earlier today and we wanted to teach the team about what this game means. I thought they responded extremely well from the tip.

"I thought Ashley separated herself tonight and made some tremendous plays that just got us sparked and going. It's a fun night when you share the basketball the way we did and when you shoot it as well as we did. This team continues to stack days and practices, which is where we're trying to be able to get from a consistency standpoint."

The Terrapins trailed the Spartans (11-11, 4-7) by four at 12-8 with 4:00 left in the first quarter. Mikesell made a three to jumpstart a 16-2 Maryland run to close the quarter and take a 24-14 lead. Charles scored 11 straight points in the stretch.

Maryland continued to push in the second quarter. A steal and score by Owusu with 1:27 left in the half put the Terps up 20 at 40-20. Maryland led 45-22 at halftime.

The Terrapins didn't let up in the second half. They outscored the Spartans by 18 in the final 20:00.

Nia Clouden led Michigan state with 17 points and Kayla Belles added 14.

The Terrapins shot 61 percent from the field (36-for-59), compared to the Spartans' 33 percent (20-for-60). Maryland also shot 69 percent from outside the arc at 9-for-13.

The win was Maryland's largest margin of victory in a Big Ten match since an 89-40 win over Wisconsin on Feb. 15, 2017.

Maryland owns the all-time series over Michigan State, 13-2.

In the NCAA Selection Committee's first reveal, the Terrapins were the No. 8 overall seed.

Charles was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 20 List Monday night.

Next, the Terrapins will travel to No. 18/23 Indiana (18-5, 8-3) for a game Thursday at 8 p.m. in Bloomington. The Terps-Hoosiers game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
