Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and Brionna Jones
  • Maryland advances to its 13th Sweet Sixteen, eighth under Brenda Frese.
  • Senior Brionna Jones went 10-13 from the floor for 22 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals to lead Maryland. Senior Shatori Walker-Kimbrough added 19 points with 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals.
  • The game turned in the second quarter, when Maryland outscored West Virginia 26-8 to take a 38-24 lead. After opening with a 23-4 surge, the Terrapins gave up two straight baskets before freshman Destiny Slocum shot a two-handed, 70-foot shot from the opposite end of the court at the buzzer.
  • Brenda Frese on sending Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and Brionna Jones out at home: "It is a beautiful way to send them out because it is not over yet. Everything they have accomplished and the atmosphere, our fans, and how they played shows this was not given to them. They had to go fight and claw and scratch. That's what they have had to do in their career so it is only fitting how this game unfolded. It is a fitting way to send them out of College Park and into Bridgeport."

Brene Moseley
Brene Moseley
  • Maryland won its 12th consecutive NCAA first round game.
  • Shatori Walker-Kimbrough led the way with 19 points, 6 boards, 4 assists and 2 steals. She went a perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line.
  • Brene Moseley went 7-for-10 from the floor off the bench for 15 points.
  • Brenda Frese: "I thought it was great that we had to earn that game. It was a tough 40 minute game. Credit Iona. I thought they came in and played a really complete 40 minute game. They defended hard and shot the ball really well. They were really scrappy and really aggressive. You saw our experience kind in to play. Our bench was huge, as it's been all season long. Brene Moseley and Tierney Pfirman gave us a huge spark. Our seniors were tremendous. We're excited to be able to move on. We want to thank our fans. It was phenomenal for us to be able to stay at home for the first round. We hope to see even more fans come out Monday night."

Laurin Mincy
Laurin Mincy
  • Maryland advanced to its ninth Sweet Sixteen and fourth under Brenda Frese with a win over her former assistant, Jeff Walz.
  • Sophomore Laurin Mincy went 10-for-13 from the foul line to lead Maryland with 24 points and 7 boards. Tianna Hawkins added 15 points and 14 rebounds.
  • The Terrapins trailed 64-59 with 6 minutes left before closing the game a 13-4 run and limiting Louisville to only one field goal.
  • Brenda Frese: "We always talk about players making plays. We had so many big plays. The player of the game was Laurin Mincy and how she stepped up. I thought our defense was tremendous. A lot of times you don't see how important Kim [Rodgers] is on the stat sheet but when she is on the floor she makes a difference defensively. I thought we were unselfish down the stretch. Tianna [Hawkins] was sensational tonight the way she cleaned up the boards."
