Five Minutes With a Hardshell: Dan Morris

What have you been up to after graduation before returning to Maryland as the team's Director of Operations:
"After my last season, I finished my master's degree in the fall of 2018. Then, I moved up to Massachusetts and was working as an assistant product manager for a residential home builder. I was on the construction side, building mutli million-dollar mansions and then decided to get back into coaching. I was doing some volunteer Division III coaching and then Coach Tillman called me to see if I would be interested in coming back."

When the opportunity presented itself, what made you want to come back to Maryland?
"Having the chance to come back and work at Maryland is a once in a lifetime opportunity, getting to work for the program and the school that was such a huge part of my life. Just the ability to help the team in any way I could after a year I was yearning for an opportunity to help. Getting to come back and work with the guys and try to pass down some of the lessons I learned as a student and to help the team win in any capacity I could."

What was this past year like with the Whipsnakes in the newly formed Premier Lacrosse League?
"What attracted me the most about the league was the fact that they were trying to make professional lacrosse more legitimate. They were trying to grow the game in emerging areas with big TV contracts and getting a wider audience to buy in and make us on our way to be the next NBA or NFL. The opportunity to get health care through the league and get a bigger paycheck didn't hurt either. Getting to be with all those Terps was a great experience, a lot of guys I played with and a lot of guys I wish I had the opportunity to play with in college. I luckily got the opportunity to be with those guys in the PLL and won a championship with all the Terps who did not get one when they were at Maryland so it was a great feeling. I'm looking forward to trying to do that again this year."

What was your reaction and emotions when you won the championship in Philadelphia?
"It was crazy. Joe Nardella won the faceoff, gave the ball to Matt [Rambo] and he just did his thing. I got to play with Matt for four of the years I was here. He's such a great player and a great guy and having him win it in a place where we fell short in college, his hometown and watching the emotions go through him was crazy. Coach Tillman was there so it was great, Matt went right to coach and it was a storybook ending. It was awesome to see and was awesome to be a part of."

What memories come back from that incredible 2017 National Championship run?
"It was awesome. That senior class was the guys I came in with. A lot of those guys contributed all four years they were here. Having so many great Maryland teams come before us and getting so close and not finish it. We always had 42 years hanging over our heads and to get it done with the guys I came in with was an amazing experience and one I will never forget. A lot of us have the ink on our legs and shoulders to prove it but it was an awesome way to see the guys I came in with go out on top."
