INDIANAPOLIS – BIG TEN TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS, again! The top-seeded Terps captured their fourth Big Ten Tournament title and first since 2017 with a 82-65 victory over sixth-seeded Ohio State on Sunday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Maryland (28-4) has won 17 consecutive games since Jan. 12 as it heads into the NCAA Tournament eyeing a No. 1 seed. The bracket will be unveiled on Monday, March 16 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. NCAA Tournament First & Second Rounds will be held on campuses from March 20 - 23, 2020.
Brenda Frese has led the Terps to Big Ten Tournament titles in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2020 and holds a 16-2 all-time record in the Big Ten Tournament, advancing the the championship game in all six season since Maryland joined the Big Ten.Â
Big Ten Freshman of the Year
Ashley Owusu posted a 17 points along with a career-high 11 assists and six rebounds as she was named the Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player.Â
Stephanie Jones tallied a double-double with game highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Shakira Austin (14 points),
Taylor Mikesell (12 points) and
Blair Watson (11 points) also scored in double-figures. Maryland outrebounded Ohio State, 82-65, as it defeated the Buckeyes for the third time this season.Â
