COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland women's lacrosse freshman defender Emma Schettig was selected to Inside Lacrosse's 2020 All-Rookie Team, the publication announced Tuesday.
Schettig is one of 10 freshmen to be named to Inside Lacrosse's All-Rookie Team and the only defender on the list.
This is the second honor for Schettig in the past week, as last week she was named a second team all-american by Inside Lacrosse. The Woodbine, Md. native is the first Terp to be placed on the All-Rookie Team since Grace Griffin in 2018.
In Maryland's shortened six game season, Schettig shined as a freshman, leading the Terps with 17 groundballs and nine caused turnovers, while ranking second with 16 draw controls. The freshman stepped into a starting role right away, picking up four groundballs and causing two turnovers in Maryland's season opener at George Mason.
In the Terps home contest against #4 Syracuse, Schettig tallied a game-best five groundballs and three caused turnovers, earning her Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. Her five groundballs were the most by any Maryland freshman since 2016.
