Two Terps Named WGCA All-American Scholars

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Juniors Virunpat Olankitkunchai and Laura Van Respaille were named WGCA All-America Scholars Monday. This is the second honor for both of them.
 
Olankitkunchai, an Information Systems-Business major, earned All-America Scholar honors in 2018 and Van Respaille, a Supply Chain Management major, did in 2019. They were both named to the Academic All-Big Ten Team earlier this spring.
 
Olankitkunchai averaged a 72.67 this season, which broke her own program record of 72.81 set last year. She competed in all eight events for the Terrapins in the fall and early spring, earning two top 10 finishes and five in the top 25. She notched 11 rounds at or under par.
 
Olankitkunchai was named to the All-Big Ten First Team last year. She is the third Terrapin to earn All-Big Ten honors under head coach Diana Cantu and second to earn multiple honors.
 
Van Respaille competed in all eight events for the Terrapins. In the Terps' final two events of the year, she finished tied for 12th and tied for ninth.
 
As a team, the Terrapins earned a GPA of 3.76. This is the first time in program history two Terps in three straight years have earned WGCA All-America Scholar honors.
 
The Terrapins ended the season ranked No. 47 nationally. They won their final tournament of the season, the Hurricane Invitational in March. The Terps went seven strokes under par with a 281 to tie their season low. They finished ahead of six top 50 teams.
