
Owusu Named Naismith National Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Sophomore guard Ashley Owusu of the No. 12-ranked Maryland women's basketball team was named the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy National Player of the Week Tuesday.
Owusu led the Terrapins (9-1, 5-0 B1G) to a 3-0 week in Big Ten play, including two hard fought wins over top 25 teams. Owusu led the Terrapins in scoring in all three games and averaged 19.7 points, 6.7 assists and 6.0 rebounds in the three wins.
In an 84-80 win over No. 18 Indiana Monday, she led the Terrapins to the gritty four-point win with 20 points, 5 boards and 5 assists. She scored 13 of her points in the first half to help the Terps build a 12-point lead at half.
In a 93-87 victory at No. 23 Michigan State Thursday, Owusu led the way with 20 points, 10 boards and six assists. She went 10-for-12 at the foul line. She added seven points in the fourth quarter to help hold off the Spartans' run.
In the Terps' 83-46 win over Purdue Sunday, Owusu led the Terps once again with 19 points and nine assists. Maryland went on a 17-0 run just after the media timeout in the third quarter. A pullup jumper by Owusu sparked the run and pushed the Terrapins' lead to 35 at 69-34 with 30 seconds left in the period.
Owusu was also named to the Big Ten Player of the Week honor roll Monday.
Maryland will play at Minnesota (2-5, 1-4) Thursday at 6 p.m. ET at the Gophers' Williams Arena. Thursday's matchup will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
