Sorem Named Top Assistant Athletic Director

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- University of Maryland Deputy Athletic Director Colleen Sorem was named a Silver Waves Media Top Assistant Athletic Director, the company announced Wednesday. 
 
The honor is given by Silver Waves Media after months of research and consulting with head coaches, presidents, search firms and numerous influencers in the college athletics space. 
 
"Congratulations to Colleen on this tremendous honor," said Athletic Director Damon Evans. "Colleen is invaluable to our Maryland Athletic Department. She brings expertise in many areas which has helped our department develop and flourish. She exemplifies what One Maryland is all about by leading boldly, focusing on providing a student-centered environment and inspiring Maryland pride in everything she does. Congrats, Colleen, this is so well-deserved."
 
Sorem, who has been Maryland Athletics Deputy Athletic Director since July of 2018, is the second-in-command administrator, tasked with overseeing day-to-day operations of the department and serves as the Chief Financial Officer, in charge of managing the budget. 
 
Sorem also serves as the sport supervisor for the football, women's basketball and women's lacrosse programs. 
 
Sorem, who joined Maryland in 2014, previously served as the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Internal Operations where she had direct oversight of multiple units, including business operations, facilities, information technology and human resources. Sorem played a major role in the execution of a brand new multimedia rights agreement for Maryland, which represented a $30 million increase from their former contract, and she was also able to use her financing skills to gain major technological and equipment advancements for Maryland's sports facilities.
 
Sorem graduated from James Madison University in 2000 with a bachelor of science in Kinesiology and a minor in business, before obtaining her masters in sports administration at the University of Alabama in 2002. She is a native of Manassas, Virginia.
