Fall 2020 Academic Success

"Once again in the face of a pandemic, our student-athletes showed outstanding resilience as we set records for academic excellence here at Maryland in the Fall 2020 semester," said Athletic Director Damon Evans. "Our students have persevered through many challenges and performed at high levels in their classes. A tremendous factor in that success is our staff at Gossett Student-Athlete Center, as they have worked tirelessly to create a level of normalcy during these unique times. The GSAC staff is to be commended for their commitment to academics at the University of Maryland and supporting our Terrapins. The efforts of our student-athletes and staff truly indicate our One Maryland mantra as we lead boldly, provide a student-centered environment and inspire pride."

"'Control the Controllables', was our Academic Services staff motto during the Fall 2020 semester,"
said Associate Athletic Director and Director of the Gossett Student-Athlete Center Brady Rourke. "Terrapin Student-Athletes endured unprecedented change and disruption to the traditional student-athlete experience, however their resolve and ability to maintain academic focus remained unchanged. Student-Athletes nor our Gossett Student-Athlete Center (GSAC) team could control the impact of the pandemic on numerous aspects of college life, however we could control our commitment to academic achievement. Our GSAC team continued offering academic services virtually including academic counseling, learning specialist support, and tutorial services. Student-Athletes attended over 1,500 virtual tutorial sessions throughout the fall semester.

"I remain inspired by the commitment and resolve of our student-athletes, as they face adversity with passion and character. Their academic achievements fall semester reflect an unwavering commitment to academic excellence. The commitment to student success by student-athletes, faculty, administration, and our athletics department during an extraordinary term, strengthens a deep feeling of Maryland Pride."
