COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Maryland volleyball team dropped its season opener vs. Ohio State in a five-setter, 3-2, on Friday afternoon at the Covelli Center in Columbus, Ohio.
What You Should Know
- After coming off a 2019 season in which Maryland played in 13 five-set matches, Maryland opened the season with yet another match that went the distance.
- Junior middle blocker Rainelle Jones led the Terps with 12 kills and added a team-high 6 blocks. Jones also led all outside hitters with a .400 hitting percentage.
- Senior setter Nicole Alford was stellar in her season debut, dishing out 31 assists while adding 10 digs and seven kills on nine attempts.
- Senior outside hitter Erika Pritchard notched a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.
- Jada Gardner (8), Rebekah Rath (7), and Cara Lewis (1) added kills in their season debuts.
- Maryland's net-front presence overpowered the Buckeyes at the net, out-blocking Ohio State 13 to 10. Jones and Lewis led the way with six blocks apiece
