STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Senior Angel Nkwonta set the school record, establishing herself as the top weight thrower in Maryland's history. Nkwonta's weight throw mark of 21.36m (70-1) is the second-best in the Big Ten and third-best in the nation.
The Maryland Indoor Track & Field team took home two first place marks and 12 total podium finishes.
Program Records
· Freshman Jeff Kline earned a spot in Maryland's record-books. His 18.27m (59-11 ¼) shot put finish is the fourth-best in Terps history and the best since '82. In his freshman debut, Kline placed first in the event is now third in the Big Ten overall.
· Senior Travis Valmon set a new personal record in the 600m (1:21.17). Valmon moves up to eighth-best in the Maryland history books.
Women's Notes
· Alice Barnsdale placed 2nd in the weight throw improving her season-best to 17.55m (57'7").
· Bria Mack crossed the line second in the 60m dash posting a time of 7.62. Mack ran 7.60 in the preliminary rounds.
· Jaida Smith sprinted to a 3rd place finish in the 200m dash (25.00). Smith also ran 7.73 for 6th place in the 60m dash finals.
· Madison Depry doubled with a personal best in the 60m dash (7.81) in addition to a 4th place finish in the High Jump (1.65m).
· Nadia Hackett competed in the prelims and finals of the 60m hurdles running 8.68 in the finals.
· Freshman Kami Joi Hickson debuted in the 800m with a 4th place finish in 2:13.17. Mackenzie Morgan earned 5th with a time of 2:13.93.
· In the women's mile, Samatha Facius paced herself to a 2nd place finish (5:10.33). Sophie Zell was 3rd (5:12.34), Sarah Daniels 4th (5:12.61), and Katie Ericson 5th.
· Kamryn Henderson set a personal best in the shot put (13.34m) and Sarah George threw a personal best in the weight throw (16.22m)
Men's Notes
· Freshman Hayden Tobias earned a third-place finish in his first competition event on Weight Throw (16.93m, 55-6 ½). Tobias also finished third in the shot put with a personal record 16.82m (55-2 ¼).
· Caleb Dean finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.98. This is the second week in a row Dean has finished under 8.00.
· Drake Murphy matched his personal best mark of 8.37 in the 60m hurdles. Murphy finished fifth in the event.
· Freshman Kamari Trotz finished third on the podium in the 60m dash with a final mark of 7.01.
· Chase McGeehan finished second in the 800m setting a personal record of 1:54.80.
· Brady Snelson finished closely behind in third place in the 800m setting an indoor PR of 1:55.05.
