What's UP
- Maryland held off No. 23/24 Michigan State, 93-87, Thursday night in East Lansing. The Terrapins made 33 of 38 free throws, including 8-9 down the stretch, to win their seventh straight. Ashley Owusu led the way with 20 points, 10 boards and six assists. Chloe Bibby added 20 points, Katie Benzan scored 19, Diamond Miller added 14 and Mimi Collins scored 13.
- Â The Terrapins welcomed graduate transfer Alaysia Styles to the roster last week. She graduated with her degree from Cal at the end of the fall 2020 semester. Styles, a 6-3 forward from San Diego, played three seasons at California. In her junior season, she averaged 8.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and started in 30 games for the Golden Bears.
- Â The Terrapins are averaging 95.3 points per game through nine games, which is second in the country to New Mexico, which is averaging 95.4. The NCAA Division I scoring record is 96.7 points per game by Providence in 1991. Maryland's team scoring record was 89.6 points per game by the 1977-78 team. No other team in program history averaged over 90 points per game.

50 seasons of excellence
- The University of Maryland women's basketball program will celebrate its 50th varsity season in 2020-21, and will honor the program's rich tradition and history throughout the year. Maryland played its first full varsity season in 1971-72, under the leadership of pioneer Dottie McKnight. During its storied history, the program has won 1,037 games, amassed 43 winning seasons, won 22 conference championships, made 37 postseason appearances and captured the 2006 National Championship

- Head coach Brenda Frese is entering her 19th season in College Park. She's led the Terrapins to a record of 494-128 (.794), 12 conference titles, 15 NCAA Tournament appearances in 17 postseasons, three Final Fours, six Elite Eights, six Sweet Sixteens and the 2006 NCAA Championship.Â
- Frese is closing in on 500 wins at Maryland. With win No. 500, she will become the winningest coach in Maryland basketball history. Hall of Fame women's basketball head coach Chris Weller won 499 games in her 27 seasons (1975-02).Â

- Maryland is one of the most consistent winning programs in the country. The Terrapins have been ranked in 201 straight Associated Press polls, dating back to the preseason poll of the 2010-11 season. That mark is behind just Baylor (326 weeks) and Connecticut (516 weeks).

- Maryland owns the series over Purdue, 12-2, and has won 10 of the last 11 matchups.Â
- The Terrapins took both meetings last year. They won 88-45 in College Park on Feb. 25 and 74-62 in the Big Ten Tournment on March 6.
