Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD – A furious comeback fell just short as Maryland (13-4, 1-4) fell against conference foe Northwestern (7-9, 2-3), 3-2.
The first set was a back and forth affair that saw the Terps fall 25-23, despite three kills and two blocks from standout senior,
Rainelle Jones. The pair of Jones and
Sam Csire swifty tied the match at one after a 25-19 win with staggering seven kills in the frame by Csire. The third set went back to the Wildcats once again by a score of 25-23 with Maryland not able to tie it late. The Terps stormed back in the fourth set, winning it 25-16 behind Jones' fierce blocking and thunderous kills. The fifth and final went the Wildcats way as the Terps couldn't complete the comeback.
Filling The Stat Sheet
- Jones led the Terps in kills with 14 with Csire chipping in 13 of her own.
- Jones and Laila Ricks led the charge on the defensive end with eight blocks apiece
- Sydney Dowlers 41 assists paced the team with no other Terp getting more than three.
- Freshman sensation Milan Gomillion once again led the team in digs with 15.
Hughes Milestone
- The next win for head coach Adam Hughes will be his 50th as head coach of the Maryland volleyball team.
