COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Another well-balanced effort with strong play on both ends of the floor lifted Maryland to an 88-67 victory over Villanova on Friday night. The Terps (2-0) used a 20-0 run in the third quarter to open a lead as large as 32 points to cruise to the victory. 

Angel Reese continued her stellar play as she tallied a career-high 23 points and grabbed five rebounds, on the heels of a 21-point, 14-rebound effort in the Terps' season opener. Reese became the first Terp since Shatori Walker-Kimbrough in 2015-16 to score 20-plus points in the first two games of a season. 

Five Terps joined Reese in double-figures: Mimi Collins (17 points), Ashley Owusu (13 points), Katie Benzan (12 points), Shyanne Sellers (12 points) and Chloe Bibby (11 points). 

Bibby scored the 1,000th point of her career on a 3-pointer midway through the third quarter and finished with 11 points along with seven rebounds. 
  
Owusu and Reese combined for 18 points in the second quarter as the Terps pulled away, leading 47-33 at halftime. Maryland continued the onslaught in the third quarter, scoring 20 consecutive points to take a 69-37 lead with 3:38 left in the third quarter on a Sellers layup. 

Maryland's defense limited the Wildcats to just 47 points over the final three quarters and just 38 percent from the floor over the final 30 minutes. 

Villanova (0-2) was led by Brianna Herlihy, who scored 16 points.

"They had no answer for Angel inside. I thought Ashley was extremely aggressive. I liked how we were able to share the basketball on offense and really work on some things defensively with where we need to be.
 
Anytime we can play inside-out is to our advantage. I love where Angel and Mimi are at. I think Angel's doing a great job facilitating in there, being able to draw fouls, being able to kick out when necessary. Being able to have that inside-outside presence with the shooters that we have, makes us that much more dangerous."

Breaking Down The Game

• Maryland held a narrow 21-20 edge after the first 10 minutes. Reese had nine of the Terps' 21 points as Maryland shot 9-of-15 in the first quarter. 
• The Terps' defense buckled down in the second quarter to take a 47-33 lead into halftime. Maryland limited the Wildcats to just 13 points on 5-of-17 shooting in the period. Reese added 10 more points in the second to lead all players with 19 points in the first half. Owusu had eight points in the second quarter as she recorded 11 in the first half. The Terps shot 63.3 (19-of-30) in the first half. 
• That 20-0 run keyed the third quarter as Maryland led 73-45 after three periods. 
• Shyanne Sellers scored seven points in the fourth quarter as the Terps outscored Villanova, 22-15, in the final quarter. 

1,000 For Bibby

• Chloe Bibby scored 11 points in the game and now has 1,004 in her career. 
• She nailed a 3-pointer with 5:44 left in the third quarter to put her at the 1,000-point plateau. 
• Bibby scored 609 points in three seasons at Mississippi State. 
• She's scored 395 points in her time at Maryland.

Reese Rising 

• For the second game in a row, Angel Reese set a new career-high as she scored 23 points after setting a new high with 21 points in the opener vs. Longwood. 
• Reese became the first Terps with 20-plus points in the first two games of a season since Shatori Walker-Kimbrough scored 22 vs. UMass-Lowell (11/14/15) and 26 vs. High Point (11/18/15) to open the 2015-16 season. 

Double-Figure Games

• Benzan hit double-figures for the 84th time in her career and second this year. 
• Bibby tallied 10-plus points for the 52nd time in her career and first this season.
• Owusu had her 44th career game (second this season) in double-figures. 
• Collins scored in double-figures for the 24th time ever and second this year. 
• Reese was in double-figures for the second time this season and 10th time in her career. 
• Sellers hit double-figures for the second time in as many games in her career.  

Home Sweet Home

• The Terps are 568-136 (.807) all-time in College Park, dating back to the inaugural 1971-72 season. 
• Maryland is 274-41 (.870) at home under Brenda Frese, whose first season in College Park was the inaugural season of XFINITY Center, in 2002-03. That is among the top 10 toughest places to play in the country. 
• The Terrapins are now 154-11 (.933) all-time in nonconference games in XFINITY Center. 

The Series With Villanova

• This was Maryland's second matchup with Villanova and first since 1981. 
• The Wildcats won the only other matchup, 74-61 on Dec. 19, 1981 at Cole Field House.
