Long before I ever set foot on campus, Barry Gossett was tirelessly championing the University of Maryland and Maryland Athletics. For decades, Barry has been cheering on the Terps in all sports. For years, his legacy of support was reflected in the name of the Gossett Football Team House, now Gossett Hall. And just a few years ago, Barry and his late wife Mary, made a transformative gift to our academic enterprise, launching the Gossett Student-Athlete Center for Academic & Personal Excellence -- a program that has already improved the lives of hundreds of student-athletes. He continues to be a champion for our University and our athletic program to this day.
I am proud to announce that, in recognition of a leadership gift from Barry, the position of athletic director at the University of Maryland will now be known as the Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics. I am thrilled and humbled to have my name associated with such an esteemed individual.
We are in the heart of our athletic seasons. Football just earned a big Homecoming victory. Men's Soccer is headed into the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 2 seed (with a first-round game at Ludwig Field this Sunday at 1 pm). Field Hockey enters the Big Ten Tournament as the fifth-ranked team in the nation. Volleyball is having its best season in years. And next week marks the start of the regular seasons for Maryland Basketball, with both the women's and the men's teams highly-ranked and ready to go.
Off the court, we are so happy to be welcoming fans back to our games after COVID-19 disrupted all of our lives. It is so energizing to feel the love of the home crowds -- our teams thrive with that energy. So please come on out and cheer on your Terps.
Our Terrapin Club is growing strongly too, with more than 1600 new members since the start of the year. We are proud to be delivering exciting new programs like Backstage Pass -- which provides unique experiences for members -- and Terrapin Club+ -- a streaming platform exclusively for members. So whether you're new to the Terp family or you've been supporting us for decades, thank you for your support of Maryland Athletics.
