COLLEGE PARK, MD - The official 2022 schedule for the Maryland softball program has been released, as announced by head coach Mark Montgomery on Tuesday. The full schedule can be found here.
"We're so excited about this year's schedule," Montgomery said. "It's a great mix of top-25 as well as other very strong teams that will help us come time for Big Ten play."
The Terps will start the season on the road in Florida, first competing in the FIU Tournament in Miami. Maryland will face No. 23 Tennessee and FIU on Friday, Feb.11, and UNC Greensboro on Saturday, Feb. 12. Two remaining competitors will be determined during the tournament, with those games occurring on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13.
Maryland will return to the Sunshine State to face five competitors in Orlando for the annual THE Spring Games Tournament. The Terps kick things off against FAU on Friday, Feb. 18, followed by Stetson the same day. On Saturday, Feb. 19, Maryland will play Bethune-Cookman, and No. 25 Liberty. The No. 13 Missouri Tigers will be the Terrapins' final opponent in Florida on Saturday, Feb. 20.
Five days later, the Terps will continue their road tour in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the Chanticleer Showdown. On Friday, Feb. 25, Maryland will face Central Michigan and Monmouth, followed by Coastal Carolina and Dartmouth on Saturday, Feb. 26. On Sunday, Feb. 27, the Terps will wrap up play against North Carolina A&T.
March will be jam packed for the Terps, with games against Villanova, UNC Charlotte, and Boston College to start in the Queen City Classic (March 4-5). A quick three days later, Maryland will face Virginia in Charlottesville on Tuesday, March 8. Staying in Virginia, the Terps will see top ranked opponents in No. 11 Arkansas, and No. 4 James Madison, in addition to Lehigh University, March 11-13 for the Mizuno Classic in Harrisonburg.
The Maryland Invitational will mark the home opener for the Terps, welcoming five opponents to College Park in UMBC, Monmouth, North Dakota State, Army and Binghamton (March 16-19).
Big Ten play will officially open up on the road for Maryland, facing local foe Penn State, March 25-27 in State College. All conference games will be three-game series, with one game occurring each day. The Terps will return home to College Park as they take on Iowa, April 1-3, and Coppin State on Wednesday, April 6.
Maryland will head to West Lafayette next to compete against the Purdue Boilermakers, Friday April 8 through Sunday, April 10. Coming back home, the Terps will take on No. 19 Michigan April 14-16. A few days later, Maryland will face local rival Rutgers in a double header on Tuesday, April 19.
The next two series will be on the road for Maryland, first facing Minnesota April 22-24 in Minneapolis. In the 2021 season, the Terps upset the then No. 24 Gophers with a 2-1 victory, their first win over a ranked opponent since 2017. The Michigan State Spartans will be Maryland's next competitor, April 29 - May 1 in East Lansing.
The Terps will close out the regular 2022 season at home against Ohio State, May 6 - 8. The Big Ten Tournament will be held in East Lansing, Michigan, May 12-14. Live stats, radio, and stream information will be provided at a later date.
