Â
DeBerdine is a finalist, along with Jill Bolton (Liberty), Erin Matson (North Carolina) and Maddy Murphy (Iowa).
The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 46 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies "the best of the best in collegiate athletics". The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2022 Honda Cup which will be presented on a telecast on CBS Sports Network.
Â
DeBerdine started in 104 games in her Maryland career – more than any Terrapin in program history. She is a two-time NFHCA All-American honors and was named to the First Team this past fall.  She was also named the NFHCA All-Mid Atlantic Regional Player of the Year last month and earned All-Big Ten First Team honors for the second straight season. DeBerdine, the Terps' team captain, was named to the Big Ten Players to Watch list and the 2020 NFHCA Senior All Star Game in 2020.
Â
In her five years in College Park, DeBerdine helped the Terrapins to a record of 78-28 (.736), two Big Ten championships, a Big Ten Tournament championship and three Final Fours.
Â
Off the field, DeBerdine is a four-time NFHCA National Academic performer and a three-time member of the All-Big Ten Academic Team. She has made the Dean's List every semester of her collegiate career and was named to the prestigious Gossett Fellows program at Maryland for student-athlete career development. DeBerdine also received the Maryland Watch Award for a student-athlete who exhibits commitment to Maryland PRIDE and demonstrates extraordinary leadership. She earned an ICA Academic Achievement Award for highest GPA on the team in 2020. DeBerdine will graduate with her degree in supply chain management from the Smith School of Business this month.
Â
Five Terrapins have won seven Honda Awards – Autumn Welsh (2001), Paula Infante (2005, 2006), Susie Rowe (2008), Katie Bam (2009, 2010) and Megan Frazer (2011).
Â
The field hockey finalists were selected by a panel of coaches and experts from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). The Honda Sport award winner for field hockey will be announced later this week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote. Â
