Frese Wins 500th At Maryland As Terps Top Huskers, 95-73

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Brenda Frese won her 500th game as a head coach at Maryland, to become the winningest coach in program history, as Terps routed Nebraska, 95-73, at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Sunday night.

Frese, who is in her 19th season at the helm of the Terrapins has a 500-130 record at Maryland as she surpassed Hall of Fame women's basketball head coach Chris Weller, who won 499 games in her 27 seasons (1975-02) at Maryland.

"Incredibly proud of this team. You see the passion and the love that they play with in this game," Frese said. "Just given the resiliency of our travel day to have to come in the day of the game to be able to watch that first quarter where I thought we punched first. It was an incredible game when you talk about the unselfishness of this team each and every quarter. They played extremely hard for one another.

"There's not another team I would rather celebrate this milestone with. You look at the resiliency of this team and what they've been through this season. I think it's really appropriate that we would be able to celebrate this 500th win at Maryland together, one the road for one another. It's been an incredible journey, one that I'm incredibly proud of. Most importantly is just the consistency factor to be able to do this at such a high level, day in and day out, with such incredible student-athletes and families and staff and support staff to make this happen."

The Terrapins' 95 points scored set a Pinnacle Bank Arena scoring record.

Ashley Owusu led all scorers with 25 points as she was 10-of-15 from the floor while racking up seven rebounds and seven assists. Diamond Miller tallied 24 points, as she was also hot from the floor converting 9-of-12. Mimi Collins netted 19 points and added six rebounds. Chloe Bibby was also in double-figures with 16 points and seven boards.

The Terps raced out to a 27-16 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, leading by as many as 27 at the end of the third quarter, 77-50.

Ruby Porter scored a career-high 19 points for the Cornhuskers (9-10, 7-8), who have lost four straight and are 0-13 against the Terrapins. Kate Cain and Isabelle Bourne adding 17 points with Bourne grabbing 10 rebounds.

Nebraska had a 10-0 run and near the midway point of the third period cut the deficit to 56-46 but Owusu fueled a 15-0 run and scored 12 in the period, with the Terrapins on top 77-50.
The Cornhuskers shot 50% in the second half, 62.5% in the fourth quarter, and had just five turnovers, yet were outscored 44-40 after the break by the nation's No. 1 offense,
