STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Maryland Indoor Track & Field team took home three first place marks and 16 total podium finishes.
Program Records
- Freshman Kami Joi Hickson solidified herself in the Maryland record books at No. 6 in the 600m. Hickson placed fourth with a final time of 1:34.68.
- Senior Brian Evans finished the 400m in third place with a final time of 48.01. He is now ranked No. 6 in the 400m in Maryland history.
Women's Notes
- Jaida Smith sprinted to a first-place finish in the 200m dash (24.75). This is a new personal record for Smith who also competed in the long jump.
- Angel Nkwonta placed first in the weight throw with a final throw mark of 19.43 (63-9). Kamryn Henderson and Alice Barnsdale followed in fourth and fifth place respectively.
- The shot put trio of Nkwonta, Henderson and George placed second (Nkwonta - 15.35), fourth (Henderson - 14.09) and fifth (George - 13.96). Henderson set a new personal record in the shot put event.
- Bria Mack earned a second-place finish in the 60m dash posting a time of 7.62 for the second meet this season.
- In the women's mile, Samantha Facius paced herself to a personal best 5:05.59 finish.
- Nadia Hackett and Chloe Royce both competed in the prelims and finals of the 60m hurdles. Hackett finished third with a mark of 8.61 with Royce finishing in seventh.
- Royce also competed in the Long Jump and High Jump as she prepares for the Pentathlon later this season.
- Sarah Daniels earned a second-place finish in the 3000m with a final time of 10:32.74. Sophia Zell finished in third.
- Maryland's 4x400 relay team of Nadia Hackett, Cheyenne Jones, Kami Joi Hickson and Mackenzie Morgan finished the competition off for the Terps.
Men's Notes
- Sophomore Joe Ewan finished first in the 60m dash with a final time of 6.91. He continued to impress in the 200m dash where he placed second with a final time of 22.33.
- Freshman Kamari Trotz finished second on podium in the 60m dash with a time of 6.96.
- Brady Snelson executed a strong race in the 800m, dropping 1.5 seconds from his previous indoor best. He finished in 1:53.43 and crossed the line in second place.
- Gerald Ngorbe finished second in the triple jump, earning a 14.28 (46-10 ¼) mark, just shy of his personal best.
- Chris Spiess placed second on the pole vault clearing a mark of 4.66m (15.3 ½)
- Freshman Hayden Tobias earned a fourth-place finish in the weight throw event (16.52m, 54-2 ½). Tobias also finished fourth in the shot put with a final mark of 16.43m (53-11).
Coach's Comments
"We are moving in the right direction with athletes stepping up and taking some chances to push themselves as we enter the midpoint of the season. We will continue to see more Big Ten competitors in the upcoming weeks and I look forward to keeping this pace going."
