Four of Maryland's freshmen played big roles in the opener against Penn State. Jacen Russell-Rowe and Joe Suchecki both scored goals, while Ben Bender was a big aspect of the Terps attack. After giving up three goals in the first half, Jamie Lowell grew into the match between the sticks. All four started and played significant minutes in Maryland's loss to Ohio State, while fellow freshman Alex Nitzl made his Maryland debut. In Maryland's match with Rutgers, all five of those freshmen started as Maryland featured a lineup with eight underclassmen.
