Big Marks Earned at Jesse Owens Invitational

Columbus, Ohio – The Maryland Outdoor track and field team competed in the first day of the Jesse Owens Invitational hosted by the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Women's Notes

Jaida Smith surpassed her personal best and the best ever mark at the University of Maryland, running a blazing 23.65s. However, due to the wind reading this will go in the record books with an asterisk.
Senior Angel Nkwonta led the hammer squad with a third place finishing mark of 59.46m, followed by Kamryn Henderson's PR of 54.56m and Sarah George's mark of 44.24m.
In the women's 400m hurdles, Nadia Hackett rounded out the event with a finishing time of 1:03.71.
Lillian Hill finished the women's javelin throw with a final mark of 37.54m.

Men's Notes

Sophomore Joseph Ewan led the Terps in the 200m dash with a final time of 21.98s, followed by Kamari Trotz's 22.17s.
Kobe Simpson and Tommy Adebayo competed in their first 200m with times of 22.38s and 22.64s, respectively.

Coach's Comments
"This is the time for the group to ramp up their performances. We saw this today with Smith in the 200m and the Hammer throwers. It's nice to see the team peaking when it counts."
