CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The No. 20 Maryland women's golf team had a successful start to the week, going 2-1 in Cavalier Match Play.

Maryland started the first round against Louisville, coming out on top in a 3-2 battle. Maria Vittoria Corbi  and Laura Van Respaille got points on the board for the Terps, with Corbi ending 5&5 and Van Respaille finishing 6&5. Xialoin Tian went head to head with Louisville's Hana Ryskova, ultimately proving victorious and taking the win for the Terps after 20 holes. 

The Terps then faced No. 2 Duke in round two, putting up an incredible fight against the Blue Devils in the semifinals. Corbi took her match finishing 2UP, with Corbi taking the win in her own after an extra hole. Senior Virunpat Olankitkunchai went an impressive 21 holes after a back and forth affair, with Duke ultimately taking the match 3-2.

Maryland finished off day two with a big win over No. 12 host UVA, taking it 4-1 over the Cavaliers. Tian finished 4&3, with Corbi and Olankitkunchai finishing 2UP. Van Respaille prevailed after 20 holes, with the extras being the third consecutive sudden death affair for the Terps. 

Virunpat lead all individuals in par 4 scoring throughout the tournament with 3.85 average in addition to ending third overall in pars (39). Van Respaille was close behind, finishing fourth among competitors in pars with 37. Fellow Terp Tian finished first overall in par 5 holes, with a final average of 4.33. Corbi and Tian each tied for third place in overall birdies at 11 throughout three rounds.
