COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland baseball team will make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2017 after earning the No. 3 seed in the Greenville Regional Monday afternoon. The Terps will take on No. 2 seed Charlotte on Friday, June 4 at 6 p.m. ET, at East Carolina's Clark-LeClair Stadium. The game will air on ESPN3.
The Terrapins, who finished second in the Big Ten standings and enter the tournament with a 28-16 mark, advance to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in program history. Maryland has now appeared in four of the last seven NCAA Tournaments. #13 overall seed East Carolina is the top seed in the regional, while Norfolk State was given the four seed. Those two teams will play Friday at Noon.
"I have been a part of some really special teams during my career and this group ranks towards to top," Head Coach Rob Vaughn said. "I cannot tell you how proud I am of this group of men that has overcome so much adversity and put themselves in a position to stay together for at least another week."
Maryland features six All-Big Ten selections in Benjamin Cowles (First Team, SS), Chris Alleyne, (Second Team, OF), Ryan Ramsey (Second Team, RP), Matthew Shaw (Freshman Team), Jason Savacool (Freshman Team), and Luke Shliger (Freshman Team).
The Terps' last NCAA Regional appearance came in 2017, when Maryland went 1-2 at the Winston-Salem Regional.
