A grad transfer from Texas, Marta Perez Mur joins the Terps fresh off winning an NCAA Championship where the Longhorns defeated No. 5 Pepperdine 4-3. In the 2021 season, Mur went 9-2 across the five and six singles slots for Texas and went undefeated against conference opponents (Big 12). The newest Terp was also a force in doubles for the Longhorns this year, going 13-7 overall and taking down two conference opponents along the way primarily at the No. 3 spot. Mur finished her career with a 46-26 record in singles, along with a 43-32 doubles record.
"We're excited to have Marta joining our program this fall," Dougherty said. "She's a great player with a huge upside that will contribute immediately in our singles and doubles line-ups. Having a player not only of her caliber but with the invaluable experience of being a part of a National Championship team will be a huge asset for our team. Marta has the experience but also still the passion to make a huge impact in her final two years while getting her Masters and we can't wait to welcome her to Maryland."
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain native has also seen success off the court, being named an Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection twice during her time at Texas. With two years of eligibility, Mur will be pursuing a graduate degree in the business school at Maryland.
"Maryland is going to be great for me", Mur said. "I've had a great connection with the coaches and I am really excited to see where this program can go."
