
Chioma Onyekwere Qualifies for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Terrapin alumni Chioma Onyekwere earned a spot at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after competing in the Women's Discus Throw at Nigerian Olympic trials at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos.
Competing at Nigerian Olympic Trials, Onyekwere threw a personal best of 62.20m. The mark was enough to earn a national title as well as a qualification to represent Nigeria at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
During her time at Maryland, Onyekwere (class of 2016) set the second highest score in the women's discus in Terrapins history (178-07), also earning several Big Ten honors throughout her collegiate career.
The Olympics will take place on Friday, July 23 – Sunday, August 8, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan, and the Women's Discus Throw qualifying rounds will take place on Saturday July 31 at 10am. The events can be followed live on NBC.
