
Dougherty Adds Selma Cadar to 2021-22 Roster

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Miami transfer Selma Cadar has been added to the 2021-22 roster, as announced by head coach Katie Dougherty on Wednesday.
Cadar joins the Terrapins with a successful first two seasons under her belt with the Hurricanes, finishing with 14 singles and 12 doubles victories. Cedar ranked as high as No. 69 in the ITA singles rankings, and peaked as high as No. 53 in doubles where she defeated six ranked opponents in the process. At Miami, Cadar co-led the team in overall doubles wins and placed third in both singles triumphs and combined doubles victories, including four wins against conference foes.
"I'm excited to have Selma joining the program in the fall," Dougherty said. I'm confident she'll make an immediate impact in our singles and doubles line-ups. She brings an wealth of International Junior success as well as two years in college. Selma is committed to her tennis and academics and will be a great fit and contributor at Maryland."
Prior to her collegiate career, Cadar ascended as high as No. 36 in the ITF Juniors singles rankings; logging 10 WTA singles victories, including eight against opponents who earned international rankings. The Bucharest, Romanian native took park in multiple national titles, helping earn the country's top ranking across the U14, U16, and U18 levels. In 2018, Cadar reached the second round of the US Open Junior Championships in both singles and doubles, and also received the Romanian Tennis Federation's Junior of the Year distinction.
"I believe that me and the rest of the team can achieve exceptional things together," Cadar said. "For me, Maryland represents a place full of opportunities that will help me grow as a person on and off the tennis court."
