Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Maryland Women's Soccer Overwhelms Temple for a 3-0 Victory

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland women's soccer team defeated the Temple Owls 3-0 in the season opener. First half goals by Loren Sefcik and Alyssa Poarch and a long distance strike in the second half from Emily McNesby were enough to lift the Terps to their first win of the season and it was done in dominant fashion.

No First Game Jitters

  • The Terps are unbeaten in their last five season openers.
  • Maryland is now 20-4-3 in its season openers since 1995.

From The SEC to the B1G
  • Maryland native Kori Locksley returned from the Auburn Tigers to play her final season in College Park and finished with one shot on goal and an assist.
  • Goalie Liz Brucia transferred from Georgia this past offseason and delivered the first opening game shutout for the Terps since 2015 against Kent State.

Goals In Bunches
  • Sefcik became the first Terp to score a goal on the young season as she fired a shot past the Temple goalie in the 30th minute.
  • Just four minutes later grad transfer Kori Locksley found fellow grad student Poarch who fired a rocket past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
  • Three goals is the most goals in an opener since the 2013 season when they opened with a 9-0 win over The Citadel.

Suffocating Defense
  • The Owls could get nothing going against the stout Maryland defense led by Adalee Broadbent and Malikae Dayes. The group allowed just two total shots with none of them coming on net.

Toni Time
  • Freshman Toni Domingos earned her first career start for the Terps and was causing fits for the Owls' defense due to her speed. The Bridgeport, Connecticut native logged 52 total minutes in her debut and had three shots which was good for second most on either team.

Up next
  • The Terps will hit the road for the first time this season as they renew their rivalry with George Mason. Maryland is 17-6-1 all-time against the Patriots and defeated them 3-0 when the teams last met during the 2019 season.
