COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Terrapins volleyball team kicks off its 2021 season on Friday August 27 against Virginia before facing Hofstra and Central Connecticut State the following day. The fourth season under Head Coach Adam Hughes features several newcomers plus the return of both nonconference matches as well as fans in the stands.

WEEKEND STORYLINES
NEW Season, New Terps
- Heading into the 2021 season the Terps feature nine newcomers with five freshman and four transfers joining the squad.
- In their first year in College Park the five newcomers look to make an immediate impact across the court. With outside hitter Erin Morrissey, libero Milan Gomillion, middle blocker Ellie Watson, and setters Erin Engel and Zoe Huang the Terps feature youth at every postilion.
- The graduate transfers include Kaylee Thomas, Hannah Thompson, Paula Neciporuka, and Lexi Kohut. All with extensive experience at previous institutions, the quartet has combined for over 1,300 kills, 1,850 digs, and 328 blocks in their careers before arriving in College Park.
- Plus, Maryland has added assistant coach Becca Acevedo to the staff. A former assistant coach at Winthrop and West Florida, Acevedo also has experience with the USA Volleyball High Performance Pipeline.
BLOCKING PROWESS
- Led by an intimidating frontline, last season's Terps led the Big Ten with 3.15 blocks per set.
- With all major blocking contributors returning the Terps will look to continue their dominance above the net. Plus the team has added middle blocker Hannah Thompson who recorded 80 total blocks through only 19 matches just season at Notre Dame.
SCOUTING THE FOES
- The Terps face a trio of foes this weekend with Virginia, Hofstra, and Central Connecticut State on deck.
- Maryland has taken on former ACC rival Virginia 59 total times in history with the Terps winning 37 of those meetings. The last match-up came in the final game of th 2013 season on November 30 as the Caveliers came out on top in five sets.
- Throughout program history the Terps have 13 meetings with Hofstra and the Terps have left victorious in nine of those instances. The last meeting came on August 29, 2015, with the Terps topping The Pride in three sets.
- The Terps haven't met Central Connecticut State in over 40 years since 1975 and 1977 with the Terps are 1-1 historically against the Blue Devils.

- Fans are welcomed back to XFINITY Pavilion this season for the first time since the 2019 season.
