DeBerdine, Greenwalt Voted Team Captains

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Fifth-year seniors Brooke DeBerdine and Kyler Greenwalt of the Maryland field hockey squad were voted team captain and vice captain, respectively, by their teammates for the fall 2021 season.
DeBerdine, who earned NFHCA All-America honors this past spring, served as the team's captain for the spring 2021 season.
"I'm honored to serve the 2021 Terps as their captain this fall," DeBerdine said. "The Maryland field hockey program has exposed me to so many inspiring leaders and teammates that I've had the opportunity to learn from and has given me the confidence to lead this team.
"The 2021 team is an eager group with a mix of young talent and a wealth of experience. After facing the adversity of last fall and spring together, our team chemistry is at a high which makes leading this team already rewarding. I am who I am because of our great coaching staffs here. Going into my last season, I am certainly excited to work alongside them and learn from these amazing leaders. GO TERPS!
Greenwalt earned back-to-back Big Ten Sportsmanship Awards in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
"I am so honored to serve with Brooke and to lead the team to our goals!," Greenwalt said. "I can't wait to see what this year brings us and to see how hard we are going to work to reach our potential and more!"
"Leaders LEAD and Brooke does just that," head coach Missy Meharg said. "She has the discipline, the fight and the resilience to carry the group though any circumstance. She is appropriately demanding of the younger players which keeps the training sessions sharp.
"Kyler thrives on exciting, fast-paced hockey and leads in this way. She is unconditional in her deep care for every teammate and the Terp hockey program.
"Together, Brooke and Kyler are players' leaders. Maryland is in a great place."
