COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland volleyball completed the clean sweep of the Maryland Invite as they took down Hofstra in the final game of the tournament, 3-0. Strong defense by
Sydney Dowler and six emphatic kills by
Sam Csire gave the Terps a quick and decisive 25-18 win in the first set. The Terps kept it rolling in the second set where they opened up a 8-0 lead en route to a 25-15 win. The third and final set was much closer but Maryland managed to hang on and upend the Pride, 25-19, clinching the tournament win.
Great Eight
- After dropping the second set against Virginia on Friday night, Maryland reeled off eight consecutive victories against the Cavaliers, Blue Devils, and Pride.
- The Terps used a balanced attack during the tournament that saw the blockers, outsider hitters, defensive specialists, setters and libero's working in tandem to produce a formidable squad.
Super Second Set
- Coming off of a strong first set victory, Maryland came out in the second set and imposed their will onto the Pride. The Terps went on an 8-0 run to start thanks to several blocks and kills from Rainelle Jones.
- Maryland would continue to pour it on due in part to the four kills by Paula Neciporuka and great two-way play from Laila Ricks.
Go-Go Gomillion
- Freshman Libero Milan Gomillion made a name for herself this weekend as she appeared in every set that the Terps played.
- The Bowie, Maryland native not only appeared in every set, but she led the team in digs in every set of every game.
Right Engel
- Freshman Erin Engel saw her first career action in the first set and earned her first career ace which clinched the set for Maryland.
