Maryland Completes Play at Cougar Classic

Charleston, SC - The Maryland women's golf team finished 16th in their season opener at the Cougar Classic. After 54 holes of play, Patricie Mackova finished in the lead position for the Terrapins, placing in a three-way tie for 36th (72-74-73).
"It was great to see the Terps back in competition at one of the best events in the country against elite competition," said head coach Kelly Hovland.
Shaking off the rust: New Team, Fresh Start
- Freshman Panassaya Somchit finished in a six-way tie for 51st (74-75-72)
- Junior Maria Vittoria Corbi finished in a three-way tie for 57th (77-71-74)
- Senior Elena Verticchio finished 87th
- Sophomore transfer Karla Elena Vázquez Setzer finished in a two-way tie for 90th (78-80-74)
- Hovland's Analysis: "We didn't have the results on the scoreboard but we got a look at this very young team and I am excited to see them develop."
Looking Forward
"We will get back to work and be prepared to compete at Tennessee next week," said Hovland
