
Maryland Continues Big Ten Play in Columbus

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland volleyball team heads back on the road for a Saturday evening match against No.8 Ohio State in Columbus. Coming off an intense five-setter against No.14 Penn State at home on Wednesday, the Terps look to rebound against their fourth consecutive Top-15 foe.

WEEKEND STORYLINES
Career Wednesday
- Several Terps recorded career performances on Wednesday night against No.14 Penn State.
- Offensively Maryland was led by Paula Neciporuka who tallied a career-high 21 kills on a career-high 59 attempts while also adding 13 digs.
- Freshman libero Milan Gomillion continues to shine in her rookie season as she tied her career-high with 24 digs while also adding five assists.
Historic Battles
- The 2021 Terps have achieved several things that no other squad in program history have done.
- On Wednesday the Terps took the first two sets off of No.14 Penn State, the first time a Maryland squad had done so since Sept. 30, 1983.
- Last Friday night Maryland defeated No.2 Wisconsin which was both the team's highest-ranked upset and also the program's first victory ever over Wisconsin.
- The last two matches have also provided two of the top-ten attendance marks in XFINITY Pavilion History. Friday's match against No.2 Wisconsin was the third-largest with 1,828 while Wednesday's match came in tenth with 1,513.
DMV TO UMD
- Maryland is led by several local products in key spots on the squad.
- Middle blocker Rainelle Jones, an Oxon Hill native, leads the country with 1.90 blocks per set and was awarded Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week is past week.
- Libero Milan Gomillion, a Bowie native, leads the Big Ten with 4.85 digs per set and won back-to-back Big Ten Freshman of the Week earlier this season. She just passed 250 career digs on Wednesday against No.14 Penn State.
- Laila Ricks also spent much of her childhood in Virginia before moving to California.
