COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Terrapins volleyball team heads up to nearby UMBC this weekend for the Charm City Challenge featuring Howard, Quinnipiac, and the host Retrievers.

The UMBC contest on Saturday will be the only match streamed on the America East site. Live stats for all matches will be updated here once available.

WEEKEND STORYLINES

B1G Honors

Freshman libero Milan Gomillion was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on September 6, 2021.
Gomillion totaled 54 digs, 11 assists, and an ace as the Terps went 3-0 at the Cherry and White Challenge. She is now up to 104 digs, 15 assists, and three aces on the season.
The Bowie, MD, native was the first B1G Freshman of the Week for Maryland since November 2017 and the first weekly award of any kind since Fall 2018

Temple takeover

The Terps defeated Temple in a five-set thriller last Friday in Philadelphia. The Terps rallied from a 2-1 deficit and multiple match points to secure victory.
Maryland won the first set 25-6, its largest margin of victory in a set since 2016, and then went on to win the fourth set 26-21 and the fifth set 17-15.

career records

Several Terps set new career-highs this weekend in Philadelphia as the Terps went to five sets, and several extra points, against the Owls.
Sophomore setter Sydney Dowler set a pair of new personal marks with 59 sets and 19 digs. Fellow sophomore Sam Csire also set bests with 26 kills and three blocks.
Laila Ricks also set a career-high in blocks with ten.

SCOUTING THE FOES

Maryland and Howard met recently in September of 2019 as the Terps topped the Bison in five sets with victories in the first, third, and fifth sets. Throughout program history Maryland is 15-0 against nearby Howard.
Quinnipiac and Maryland have only met once, coming in 2011, where the Terps swept the Bobcats in three straight sets.
The Terps are 12-1 all-time against UMBC with the most recent victory coming in 2017. This will mark Head Coach Adam Hughes' first time at the helm coaching against the Retrievers.
