COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland women's basketball head coach Brenda Frese officially welcomed All-SEC transfer Lavender Briggs (Provo, Utah) to the program Wednesday.
Briggs, a 6-1 guard, averaged 16.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and started in all 47 games in her two seasons at Florida. She was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team in 2020 and earned All-SEC Second Team honors as a sophomore in 2021. That season, she averaged 19.5 points per game for the Gators.
"We are thrilled to welcome Lavender to our Maryland family," Frese said. "Lavender is a really talented guard that score and can impact the game in so many ways. She fit right in with our team and we just loved getting to know her. She will be a great addition to our program."
Briggs will enroll at Maryland for this spring semester. She is currently out with a leg injury. Briggs will be eligible for the 2022-23 season with two years of eligibility remaining.
"I chose Maryland because I love the coaches and the team. I believe we can do something special together," Briggs said.
The 12th-ranked Terrapins (12-5, 4-2 B1G) will play at No. 25 Ohio State (13-3, 5-2) Thursday at 6 p.m. ET in Columbus. The Terps-Buckeyes matchup will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
