Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Well-Balanced Effort Leads No. 15 Terps To 82-71 Win At Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, PA – For the second time this month, Maryland women's basketball beat Penn State. On Sunday, the No. 15 Terrapins topped the Nittany Lions, 82-71, inside the Bryce Jordan Center. Maryland (15-6, 7-3 Big Ten) has now won three games in a row.

Four Terps scored in double-figures led by Diamond Miller, who scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Chloe Bibby continued her torrid play of late. Bibby notched her first double-double of the season with 17 points and a season-high 10 rebounds. Bibby's boarding led the Terps to a 35-26 advantage off the glass. That included 21 offensive rebounds as the Terps held a 20-8 edge on second-chance points.

Angel Reese tallied 16 points, her 18th game this season in double-figures.

Mimi Collins had her highest-scoring game since Nov. 18 against UNC Wilmington as she netted 14 points on Sunday in State College. She was also 7-of-12 from the floor.

Shyanne Sellers only scored six points, but she dished out a career-high tying nine assists and came up with a career-best five steals. The five thefts equaled the most a Terp this season when Reese also had five steals vs. UNCW.

Penn State (9-11, 3-7) was led by Makenna Marisa, who scored 19 points. The Nittany had a strong day from the floor, converting 59 percent field goal percentage.

Breaking Down The Action
  • Bibby and Collins were on fire in the first quarter as the pair combined for 19 points on a perfect 9-of-9 shooting as the Terps led 27-14 after one quarter. While she didn't score a basket, Sellers made her mark on the first 10 minutes as she dished out five assists in the opening frame.
  • The Terps had another complete showing in the second quarter as the team hit six of its last eight shots to take a 48-29 lead into halftime. The Nittany Lions outshot the Terps 52 percent to 48 percent, but a staggering 10-2 offensive rebound advantage by Maryland gave the team 19 more shot attempts in the half. The Terps also forced 15 turnovers in the first half.
  • A lengthy scoring drought of over three minutes allowed Penn State to claw back into the game as Maryland's lead was cut to just 61-52, but a three-pointer from Bibby right before the buzzer restored the Terps' double-digit lead as they led 64-52 after 30 minutes.
  • The Nittany Lions continued to battle, but stingy defense by Maryland didn't allow Penn State to get any closer than eight points in the fourth quarter.

  • Miller (19 points) scored in double-figures for the seventh time this season and 47th time in her career.
