Maryland Matches Up With Georgetown for Midweek Face-Off

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - No. 2 Maryland continues their three-game home stand at the Field Hockey and Women's Lacrosse Complex. The Terps will face Georgetown on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 4:00 p.m.

  • Friday's matchup with Indiana was the 11th meeting between the Terps and Hoosiers. Maryland holds a 11-0 series advantage and a 7-0 record in College Park. Maryland had last played Indiana on Sept. 24, 2021 defeating Indiana by a score of 8-2.
  • Maryland's Tuesday evening game will be the 18th matchup with the Hoyas. The Terps lead the series, holding a 16-1 overall record against Georgetown, and a 9-0 series advantage in College Park

  • Maryland field hockey comes into the week having swept both the Big Ten and NFHCA National weekly awards with Dani Van Rootselaar, Rayne Wright and Sophie Klautz receiving honors.
  • Danielle Van Rootselaar brings home her first career National Offensive Player of the Week honor after sparking the Maryland attack with an outstanding eight-point weekend. The Bilthoven, the Netherlands native scored all four Maryland goals, including consecutive overtime game winners to lift the Terps over No.3 Iowa and No. 2 Northwestern.
  • The midfielder converted three penalty corners and one unassisted goal line drive to help the Terrapins claim two top-5 road victories in a three-day period. The graduate student also earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for her performance.
  • Rayne Wright receives her first career National Defensive Player of the Week award after anchoring the Terps defensive effort over the weekend. Wright was a key defender for the Maryland defensive unit that held then-No. 3 Iowa and then-No. 2 Northwestern each to a singular goal.
  • Wright and the Maryland defense limited Iowa and Northwestern to a combined seven shots on goal and eight penalty corners. The Bethlehem, Pennsylvania native was also a key piece in holding Northwestern fifth-year forward Bente Baekers to just one shot on goal over the entire 60 minutes of game action.
  • Sophie Klautz takes home her third Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor of the 2022 season in the wake of Maryland's 2-0 weekend. The Oegstgeest, The Netherlands native was a key contributor in two top-three ranked victories this weekend for the Terrapins.
  • These honors come after two top-three ranked victories for the Terrapins over No.3 Iowa and No.2 Northwestern. The Terps are now the only Big Ten school which remains undefeated in conference play and the lone one-loss team overall.

  • Coach Missy Meharg enters her 35th season at the helm of the Terps, having led her squads to a record of 605-156-9 with a winning percentage of over 79 percent
  • The nine-time National Coach of the Year has amassed 19 Final Fours, 12 NCAA title game appearances and seven NCAA Championships over her tenure
  • This past season, Meharg became just the third Division I head coach to reach the 600-win mark. Her 605 wins are the most-ever by any Maryland coach in history across all sports
  • Meharg has coached 56 All-Americans, 19 Conference Player of the Year recipients and six of her former student-athletes were named National Player of the YearUMDFH - Missy Meharg 600 Win Celebration

  • The Terps play an impressive 18-game slate, consisting of 10 non-conference games and 8 conference games.
  • Maryland will host 10 home games in 2022 including the 22nd annual Terrapin Invitational.
