COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The No. 17 Terps (2-1) toughed out an 83-76 win over Fordham (2-1) on Sunday afternoon in XFINITY Center.
Diamond Miller hit a key three as time ran out in the third quarter to give Maryland a 62-59 lead heading into the final ten minutes of action. The Terps jumped on that momentum and outscored the Rams by four in the final quarter to come away with the win.
Miller, back in action after missing the South Carolina game with an injury, led the Terps with a double-double effort (22 points, 13 rebounds). Miller also finished 13-of-14 from the charity stripe.
Abby Meyers chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds. Shyanne Sellers and Brinae Alexander added 15 and 14 points, respectively, off the bench. Elisa Pinzan ran the show for the Terps, dishing out a team-high six assists.
The Terps got 30 bench points to Fordham's nine.
Brenda Frese's Take
"I thought it was kind of a tale of the first two quarters. I thought we came out ready to set the tone and punched first. That was something that we talked about. I don't know if fatigue came in to play - it never should - but from the game before and a really good Fordham team. Definitely concerned going into this game just with their experience in that starting lineup. Three of those kids are grad seniors - an entire starting five of seniors. They showed. Again, perspective, through that game, their offense is ahead, they know where the ball needs to go and did a terrific job. You can see we're still learning us and each other. When our shots aren't falling, it's kind of just taking our time and being a little bit more patient. Sometimes, you got to have an ugly win and we were able to keep our poise and our composure in that fourth quarter. Overall, we know we can play better, a lot of lessons we can learn."
