Miller Shines As No. 19 Terps Win 73-68 At No. 17 Baylor

WACO, TX -- In a Top-20 matchup, Diamond Miller shined the brightest as  No. 19 Maryland went on the road to No. 17 Baylor and posted an impressive 73-68 victory at the Ferrell Center. The Terps moved to 4-1 in handing the Bears (3-1) their first loss of the season.

Miller was sensational on both ends of the floor. She tallied a career-high 32 points, besting her previous career-high of 28, on an efficient 11-of-21 shooting. She added 10 rebounds for her fifth career double-double and second this season.

Abby Meyers netted 13 points, her fifth time in double-figures in as many games as a Terp. With 10 rebounds, Meyers notched her first double-double as a Terp and the fourth of her career.

Faith Masonius did a little bit of everything for the Terps, finishing with eight points and eight boards in addition to sound defense in the post and a team-high 40 minutes.

The Terps, who led 36-26 at half, fought off numerous Baylor attempts to take the lead in the third quarter. The Bears cut the deficit to four with 1:45 remaining, but the Terps secured two offensive rebounds on their ensuing possession to keep the game out of reach. Three key free throw makes from Miller sealed it down the stretch.

Maryland was deadly from three all day, finishing with eight makes on 15 attempts. Meyers hit 3-of-5 of her three-point tries.
Brenda's Take

"A phenomenal game between two really good teams. What an environment. This is why we created the schedule we did, to really learn about ourselves and to play this tough of a schedule to prepare us for what lies ahead. I loved the resiliency. I thought we started off early turning the basketball over and we had to settle in, but I loved our poise and composure out of that to take the lead at halftime. I thought Baylor did a great job coming out punching out of halftime and taking away that lead, but again just seeing the resiliency from our team, the confidence. We needed every single one of those rebounds on the glass, that was a big key for us. Obviously, you see between Diamond and Abby, their experience. We really needed both of them on both ends of the floor and especially offensively. You saw with Dimaond her ability to just take over a game and that was really fun to watch. We're really excited to be taking a road win home."

From The Girls

"I just think I needed to be relax," Miller said of her career-night. "The first two minutes of the game were a blur, but I just exited them from my mind. Once I got settled in, I could see the floor and the basket seemed like the ocean to be honest."

"It's a game of runs," Meyers added. "Luckily, we got the run when it counted and when it mattered most. Really, we just kinda told each others to stay composed. It's a nice, dome arena, the sound echoes, it gets really loud. Credit to the fans for really bringing the energy. For us, it's just trusting the process, trusting what we've been working on in the offseason for these big moments. We love competition. Diamond is by far the biggest competitor I've ever played with and so credit to her, she really came out and put us on her back."
