COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Five members of the Maryland field hockey program were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's All-Mid Atlantic Region Teams, the organization announced Tuesday.
Leah Crouse,
Emma DeBerdine,
Hope Rose and
Danielle Van Rootselaar were named to the First Team, while
Maura Verleg made the Second Team.
Crouse, a graduate student, earns NFHCA All-Region honors for the second straight season after being named to the All-South Region Second Team in 2021. The Duke transfer was a consistently clutch performer for Maryland tallying 10 goals, including a team high five game-winning scores. Crouse was also named to the All-Big Ten Second team for her performance this season.
Senior
Emma DeBerdine was a key player up and down the field for the Terps recording seven goals and seven assists in 18 games this season. She earns NFHCA All-Region honors for the second consecutive season, and was named to the All-Big Ten First Team. DeBerdine, a team captain, was selected to the NCAA All-Tournament Team and the 2022 NFHCA Senior All-Star Game.
Sophomore
Hope Rose was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team and the Big Ten All-Tournament team. She led Maryland in both goals (14) and points (36) while finishing fourth in assists (8).
Graduate student
Danielle Van Rootselaar earns her first NFHCA All-Region honor during her lone season with the Terps. The Brown University transfer and senior captain was a catalyst for the Terps all season tallying 12 goals and three assists across 23 games. Van Rootselaar was also selected as a 2022 All-Big Ten First Team honoree, and received NCAA All-Tournament selection in her first tournament appearance.
Senior
Maura Verleg was third on the team with nine assists and was a key piece for the Maryland defensive unit which allowed just 1.52 goals per game and helped the Terps out score opponents 82-25 across all contests this season.
Maryland advanced to its 21
th Final Four as a program earlier this month, topping No. 13 Liberty and No. 8 Syracuse to advance. In their Final Four match, the Terps rallied from a 2-0 deficit but ultimately fell to Northwestern 2-1.
