MADISON, WI – The Terps suffered a 23-10 defeat at Wisconsin on Saturday in wet and windy conditions at Camp Randall Stadium. Maryland is now 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the Big Ten while the Badgers moved to 5-4 overall and are also 3-3 in conference play.

The weather hindered both offenses throughout the day. Terps' quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa returned to the lineup after missing the Northwestern game due to injury and was 10-of-23 for 77 passing yards with a touchdown pass to Tai Felton. He also ran for 19 yards to become Maryland's career leader in total offense with 7,169 total yards, breaking the record previously held by Scott Milanovich (7,111).

Roman Hemby ran for 66 yards on 16 carries and Ramon Brown had nine totes for 27 yards.

The Terps' defense was led by Beau Brade who had seven tackles and Greg China-Rose had two sacks and Tommy Akingbesote also had a sack.

Breaking Down The Action

Playing in wet and windy conditions neither team was able to register a first down until a little more than six minutes left in the first quarter. Braelon Allen gave Wisconsin a 7-0 lead with a 9-yard rushing touchdown with 1:21 left in the first quarter.
The Badgers extended the team to 14-0 on an Isaac Guerendo 89-yard run down the right sideline with 10:16 left in the first half.
Wisconsin led 17-0 at halftime after a Nate Van Zelst 38-yard field goal with nine seconds left in the first half.
Chad Ryland got the Terps on the scoreboard with a 39-yard field goal with 7:29 left in the third quarter to cut the Maryland deficit to 17-3.
For the second time in the game, the Badgers' Van Zelst kicked a field goal in the final seconds of a quarter, booting through a 35-yarderl with eight seconds left in the third for a 20-3 edge heading to the fourth quarter.
Van Zelst added is third field goal of the game with a 28-yarder with 6:33 left in the fourth quarter to make it 23-3.
Maryland worked its way down the field in the final minutes of the game as Felton caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Tagovailoa for the 23-10 final.

Tagovailoa became the Maryland career leader in total offense in the game at Wisconsin. He now has 7,169 as he surpassed Milanovich's former record of 7,111 set from 1992-95. Tagovailoa has 6,949 career passing yards 216 rushing yards.
Tagovailoa continues to stand second in career passing yardage with 6,949, completions with 584 and touchdowns with 46 only behind Milanovich, who had 7,301 passing yards, 650 completions and 49 touchdowns.

Third-Quarter Dominance

Maryland and Wisconsin each scored three points in the third quarter and the Terps have now outscored opponents 54-13 in the third quarter through nine games this season.
In allowing just 13 points, this season, Maryland has allowed the second fewest points in the third quarter in the country all season. Only Michigan (9) has allowed fewer this season.
Maryland has third-quarter shutouts in six of nine third quarters this season.

Streaks Extended

Dontay Demus Jr. had his 36th consecutive game with a reception.
Rakim Jarrett has recorded a reception in 23 straight games.
Corey Dyches has now caught a pass in 11 consecutive games.
Spencer Anderson and Johari Branch both started their 27th game in a row on the offensive line.

Notes And Nuggets

Colton Spangler had two punts of more than 50 yards in the game with punts of 60 and 57 yards. He now has nine punts of more than 50 yards this season. That includes two punts of more than 60 yards.
China-Rose had two sacks, equaling his career-high in a single game, last done against Penn State (11/6/21). He now has four sacks this season to lead the Terps.
