COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Each week during the 2022-23 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.
This week's Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week is Senior guard Abby Meyers of women's basketball.
Abby Meyers bounced back from A brief slump in a big way, leading the Terrapins in scoring in two big wins this week. She averaged 19.5 points, 48.5% from the floor and 43.8% from outside the arc.
In a dogfight at Purdue, Meyers came off the bench and led the Terrapins with 19 points off 8-for-16 shooting from the floor. She came in in the first quarter and dropped seven points off the bat. She scored five points in the final four minutes - first a three-pointer to bring the Terps within 1 with 3:49 to go. With just under 2:00 to play, she sunk another jumper to give Maryland a 1-point lead. With the game tied with six seconds to play, Meyers dribbled looking for her shot, then passed to an open Shyanne Sellers for the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer.
In the Terps' win over No. 6 UConn Sunday, Meyers led Maryland with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. She started 1-5 in the first quarter with the Terrapins only down two. In the second quarter, she scored 11 straight points for Maryland to put the Terps up five. She scored 16 of her 20 points in that second quarter and went 4-for-4 at the line. Early in the fourth quarter, UConn tied the game at 64, then Meyers responded with a huge three-point play to take the lead back for good. Maryland picked up its first-ever win over UConn and its second win over a top 10 team this season.
