Reese Named to Katrina McClain Award Watch List

ATLANTA – Sophomore Angel Reese of the 12th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team is one of 10 power forwards in the nation named to the Katrina McClain Award Watch List, announced Thursday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

Named after the two-time All-American and 1987 National Player of the Year, the annual award in its fifth year recognizes the top power forwards in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in November, which has now been narrowed to 10.

College basketball fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies in each of the three rounds. In late February, the watch list of 10 players for the 2022 Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year Award will be narrowed to five. In March those finalists will be presented to Ms. McClain and the Hall of Fame's selection committee where a winner will be selected.

Reese is leading the Terrapins in scoring (17.5 ppg) and rebounding (10.5 rpg) while shooting 50.7 percent from the field. She is second in the nation in offensive boards (5.3) and has 13 double-doubles in 23 games this season.

Reese was also named to the watch list for the Naismith National Defensive Player of the Year last month.

Owusu and Reese were both named to the Naismith Late Season Watch List Tuesday. The duo and teammate Diamond Miller were named to the Wade Watch List Wednesday.

Maryland will play at No. 25 Iowa Monday at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
