Terps Fall in Extra Innings to UNCG, 6-5

MIAMI, FL – The Maryland softball team dropped a 6-5 decision in extra innings to UNC-Greensboro. The Terps (1-2) tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Spartans responded with multiple runs in extra innings to down Maryland and send it to its second loss of the season.
After the Terps gave up a two-run home run in the seventh inning, Trinity Schlotterbeck doubled and scored Kamryn Davis, tying the game and sending it into extra innings. The teams would trade runs in the eighth and after a scoreless ninth, UNC-Greensboro scored in the 10th to make it 6-5.
Maryland was left without a hit for the first three innings, but Haley Ellefson kept pace as she only allowed three hits and gave up zero runs over that stretch. Ellefson's efforts kept the Terps in the game long enough to get on the board first after singles from Schlotterbeck, and Taylor Okada brought home Megan Mikami to make it 1-0 Terps in the fourth inning.
Plate discipline would pay off for the Terps as a wild pitch later scored Schlotterbeck, and Ruby Butler drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-0.
